New arrival at Sea Independent, s/y Palmer Johnson 84 “Fire Bird“

New arrival at Sea Independent

Named after Stravinsky’s The Firebird ballet, she was built in 1966 by the world-renowned Palmer Johnson Shipyard in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, USA. This ketch was the world’s largest aluminium sailing yacht at that time.

Rich in history and ground breaking in size, Firebird has benefited from one on the most beautiful teak fit outs for her dimensions. The quality of teak craftsmanship is unusual to see these days unless completed at a custom yard for the fortunate few due to the expense.

In the last five years, the owner has painstakingly and at a cost of over 1 million dollars stripped Firebird down to frames and rebuilt with the idea to make her ready for another circumnavigation. She has competed three already including the Antarctic and Arctic.

To complete the refit, there is still some items requiring attention, allowing the new owners to add their personal imprint. Some modern inventory and electronics may want to be considered.

Asking USD 750.000 No Vat paid, lying Phuket, Thailand.
