At the age of eighteen, he established the Bestevaer sailing schools, which grew to include three branches.

After first gaining experience as manager of a major international yacht brokers organisation, Marcel founded in 1995 Contest Brokerage and served as General Director of the Contest Group until  2010.

In 2010 Marcel established a yacht & ship brokerage company with a worldwide network of agents and offices under the auspices of Sea Independent.

From 2016 to 2021 Marcel was chairman of the Hiswa Yachtbrokers Association.
